Well the Calgary Expo 2014 came and went and it was SO FUN.  Not only did I sell SO MUCH art, but I definitely enjoyed having my 'nose up' meeting and chatting with all sorts of fans instead of 'nose down' drawing.

Basically I decided to price myself high for commissions so I wouldn't get any... I don't want to create more work for myself in this busy time of year, so instead I kept my print prices low and sold a ton of my existing work, and gave myself the chance to chat to everyone and anyone who came by....  It was so worth it, I don't think I will offer a commission rate next year at all.

The Calgary Expo is a WORLD CLASS EVENT.  Anyone reading who doesn't know where Calgary is or thinks it's small beans THINK AGAIN.... This con is HUGE, clocking in at a whopping 97,000 attendees!  I think it ranks #3 or 4 for the largest cons in North America, behind San Diego, New York and possibly Toronto.   So, next year, plan a visit to our beautiful city and take it all in!  I'm already thinking about what prints to bring.....

Cheers,
Chris

Sweating a little...  No problems, It looks awesome!
I'll be updating my journal as and when along the journey, if you want to be kept informed :) I must say i think it looks twice as good as the previous collaboration.

Sweet!   I think with fewer characters than the Marvel one, it will look really cool.  Plus it seems the quality of each character are quite good from what I have seen!  Excited

Hi Chris, I see you're working on your color skills! If you're looking to push your work even more I thought it'd be worth making sure you know about the HiFi Color for Comics Kickstarter. The book has been updated from the original publication and has already passed it's first stretch goal.

Future goals will see new content like color theory for comics, coloring toned artwork and coloring for the web amongst others coming alongside new artwork from creators such as J Scott Campbell, Katie Cook & Humberto Ramos to name but 3.

What's more you automatically get access to the on-line HiFi Academy if you get a digital or print version of the book and incentives include options such as digital or print versions of the instructional book, portfolio reviews and follow up with one of industries top colorists, one on one lessons on line or even a 3 day comics coloring bootcamp in sunny Arizona!

If any of this sounds interesting to you or you want to know more then check out the campaign page, the more artists that pledge the more we all get out of the book as those awesome stretch goals bring in new content! www.kickstarter.com/projects/h…

So I check it out, and YES. Consider me in.  Not only do i think the product will be great quality and useful, and with some heart and passion behind your work, but basically I need to work for you.  ;)   Thanks for letting me know about it, I pledged in at the Mentor level.  Cheers and good luck!  Let me know if you need any assistance or support! :)

Thanks Chris, I'm glad the information was useful :) Although I work as part of the studio the book is Brian and Kristy's project, we're all just helping to try and get the project in front of people we think would be interested. The original pubished book is something I genuinely found useful and I think their is a lot of great information that can still be mined on rereads... plus getting those stretch goals added would be great for new content! Any spreading of the word you can do is much appreciated, from all sides judging by the positive response I've had so far.

Having received feedback from Brian myself before I know you'll find the portfolio review and follow up really valuable too.

Thanks again!
